Day 4. Cima Marmotta.
We climbed straight up the couloir from the camping spot and got onto the ridge. Then we climbed the ridge towards Cima Venezia, came back and descended the glacier to the camp site. The ridge is interesting, mostly walking with elements of simple climbing, one or two places can be protected with a fixed rope but this is not really necessary. We reached a sloping slab just before the slope of Cima Venezia. This required fixing a rope, but as we were moving slowly and it was getting late, we turned back.
The red line shows our track. Shift-click on the track link will open it in nakarte.me.
The summit of Presanella in the far ridge was visible from our camp. According to the map it is not far away.
We walked around the lake and started climbing up the couloir.
Boulder fields and large scree. Sometimes we climbed up snow fields. We were getting higher and higher.
We are on the ridge at last. Cima Cevedale with Monte Cevedale behind it, in all its glory.
And now up the ridge.
These bright blue flowers are called Gentiana verna.
We left our rucksacks and went for a hike up the ridge.
Most of the ridge was walkable, but sometimes we had to use our hands.

There was a steep glacier on the left and cliffs on the right.
It's not as scary as it looks.
Vedretta Careser glacier. Just below us is a beautiful glacial lake with ice chunks.
Sometimes the path went up the ridge, but here it skirted a rocky outcrop.
Flying over Cima Venezia. We didn't have time to reach the summit and turned back after getting to a slab which required protection with a rope. Lova climbed over it and ran a bit further.
Climbing down the ridge.
We set up a fixed rope but nobody needed it...
We returned to our rucksacks, roped up, put on our crampons and went down the wet glacier to the lake.
The snow was melting and formed wet bogs on the flat sections. Eventually we reached the dry glacier section.
From time to time we would walk into a snowy mess. The accumulated water would burst out and flow downwards in a torrent that could even knock you off your feet.
We are almost at the lake where we were going to camp.
All the water from the glacier drains into this lake.
We are at the lake at last.
Looking back at the glacier and the ridge above it.
There were many metal sticks lying around. It must have been a marked winter route.
We are taking off crampons and harnesses. And enjoying the sunshine!
The ropes were spread out to dry.
