Yearsley Moor, 19 October 2024

There is a nice forest with a couple of lakes less than an hour from York. We hadn't been there for a while, so it was nice to walk through it again. We used to do a little loop around the lake when the kids were little. This time we did about 20 kilometres.

It was overcast and we did not even take the camera from the backpack. Then a small path took us to a swamp and we came across a very unusual sight: very tall horsetail lying flat on the ground.

It resembled a carpet of peacock feathers.

Up close, it looked like striped animals....

... centipedes ...

...or snakes.

The sun has come out.

We got to the lake, beautiful in autumnal colours. There used to be a bungee cord on the other side.

It's already the end of October but the porcini mushrooms are still growing.
