The Lakes are beautiful in every season, particularly in good weather.

We camped at our favourite spot by Blackbeck Tarn.

From the tarn a steep gorge descends into the valley. You can see Buttermere Lake, Crummock Water and then the sea.

The steep section is behind us. We traversed the slope on the left.

The rowan tree has no leaves left, just berries.

We went around Hay Stacks, climbed Scarth Gap pass and descended to Ennerdale. Pillar Rock is hiding in the clouds.

We turned back.

The sun lights up the distant ridge.

Mosedale.

The sun broke through the clouds.

We descended into Ennerdale. There are some very oddly shaped fir trees here. Presumably sheep or deer chew on them in winter, but they can't reach the tops.

Every time we come here, we wonder how these mounds were formed.

These small mounds are everywhere in the valley. From here we turned left and climbed up the ridge. It took us an hour to get to the car.
