It happened at last! The two big storms went through England and brought snow to the high ground, for the first time this year. Best conditions for skiing were in North Pennine, although even here the snow cover was thin. The weather was overcast to start with but eventually the sun came out.

North Pennines in the sun. Several cars drove up a dirt track and stopped by the shooting hut on the right.

Strong wind blew most of the snow away, and the moss started breaking through the thin snow cover.

A sea of snow. The temperature was around zero and skiing on this ground was surprisingly fast, particularly downhill.

Today's destination was a disused quarry which we visited a few years ago. We did not stop here for long as we wanted to return before dark.

The last hill before returning to the car. The clouds started gathering again after a sunny spell. We were following our ski tracks on the return leg but then confused them with somebody else's. We were not the only skiers here! It was getting dark but we managed to return to the car before complete darkness.
