Sweden, New Year 2026
Stockholm
We spent two days in Stockholm, and then went to Skellefteå.
We walked around the Old Town, admiring the houses and ships decorated for Christmas.
We strolled around the island of Skeppsholmen and visited an exhibition of gingerbread houses at the Museum of Modern Art.
Every resident of Stockholm could take part in the competition for the best house. There were three categories: children under 12, professional pastry chefs/architects, and everyone else. We really liked this beehive house. It turned out we were not the only ones. It won first place in the amateur category.

The caption for this exhibit read: "The four most wonderful types of Swedish mushrooms". We spotted three different kinds of chanterelles, very convincingly made, by the way. But we did not notice the fourth mushroom. Later it was explained to us: the house itself is a large porcini mushroom.
