Great Dodd 8 March 2015

We got to the Lake District hoping to find some snow. But the overnight rain washed away most of the snow. Only steep ravines had some snow.

Stybarrow Dodd with Helvellyn behind it.

We are carrying skis just in case.

Strong wind usually buffeted us, but in some places it was very quiet.

We found a snow patch - to small for skiing.

This snow field was not too bad though.

The weather improved during the day. Great views and nobody in sight. We only met a couple of people.

Skiddaw 15 March 2015

The snow fell in the second half of the week, and we decided to test our luck once more. This time we went to Skiddaw (931м). It turned out to be the 4th tallest fell in England. We were not too hopeful to find any snow, so Victor only took snow blades and sledges (we never leave home without them).

Derwent Water and Keswick.

A better weather was promised in the afternoon. We should have waited a bit more. There were clouds all around us, but the sun started appearing every now and then.

There was no visibility at the top, but as soon as we started descending, the sun came out. Blencathra is covered in snow.

Victor tried skiing but it was not great: the snow was fresh and soft, and there wasn't a lot of it.

Kids enjoyed sledging.

The snow was blown onto the path. Helvellyn is seen in the distance - we were not far from it last weekend.

The fell tops are peppered with snow. The views were fantastic after the sun came out.

We made a shortcut and descended directly to the car. We had to get through some fences, it took us a while to find the way to the road without trespassing on the private land.

A warning sign about red squirrels? There are not many of them in England, they got defeated by the grey ones. This was a great trip - probably the end of the skiing season this year.
