Haweswater January 2022

Our first trip to the Lakes this year. There was no snow anywhere in England so we just went for a hike.

We camped by a little tarn. It was covered by a thin layer of ice. The path was frozen and slippery yesterday evening and the frost glistened in the dark.

Haweswater is the highest lake in the Lake District.

We were lucky to see a herd of deer.

Some puddles got completely frozen.

The clouds were circling around the tops. This landscape with little patches of snow resembled Scotland in spring.

We descended to the car park on a good path from Gatescarth pass. It was getting dark by the time we got there so we had to use our torches.

A great trip albeit a bit shorter than usual. We blamed short days and lack of practice. The weather was sunny all day and we kept warm by moving. The Lakes are worth visiting even in snowless winters.
