Day four. Gruppo del Sella

The "Р" and train icons show the car park and the top of the ski lift, the arrows show the direction of our track. Shift-click on the track link will open it in nakarte.me.

We used ski lifts to get up onto plateaus on most trips in the Dolomites. At the end of the day we would walk back down. This turned out to be a good strategy: we did not spend much time (and effort) on ascent, but instead had full day to explore the high altitudes. We were not limited by the closure of the ski lift in the evening, and walking back down was a good excercise. This day was no exception. We took a ski lift from Passo di Pordoi to the Forcella Pordoi refuge, and then went north along the plateau.

Looking back from the Forcella Pordoi refuge.

It was quite cloudy but we did not have any significant rain.

We came up to the cliffs near the Antersass pass.

The lower valley is busking in the sun. We are standing at the edge of steep cliffs.

The famous Torre Berger

Sonya is looking apprehensive, she is tired.

Lunch break near a small lake. It started drizzling, and we got our first opportunity to use the bothy bag which we always carried with us.

We made a small circle around the plateau and descended into Val Lasties on the scree in the centre of the photograph. Now we have to climb back up the Vallone del Foss valley to the refuge.

The ascent was quite steep, the sun came out, so we felt rather hot. Sonya bathed in a little pool under a waterfall.

We were alone. For some reason all hikers flock to the popular paths, here we are all by ourselves.

The peaks surrounding the valley are like giant ships.

The refuge roof is seen at the top of the picture. This is where we are heading.

The descent follows the ski lift, zigzagging down the scree.

We have a nice view of the Marmolada glacier. This will be our hike tomorrow.
