Day two. Croda da Lago.

We first saw Mt Formin (on the left in the picture above) from the car window. We later stood on the summit - but we walked up the East face which is anything but steep.

The path first zigzagged through the forest, and then went up on the grassland.
The last few trees. We are entering Val Formin. First views of the mountains. The path climbs up the valley towards the Lastoni di Formin plateau.

Resting. We are surrounded by huge boulders.
Looking back towards Val Formin. Menacing clouds. We had a few minutes of drizzle, but otherwise the weather was dry.
We are on the plateau. The limestone plateau is covered by deep cracks caused by erosion. There is a similar place in Yorkshire Dales in England, but this is different, everything is so much bigger.
Lova above a deep crack. We were surprised to see the snow at the bottom of the crack - it must have fallen during Winter months!
Looking from the plateau towards Mt Pelmo - the crux of our trip. It could also be seen from the window of our apartment. We climbed Mt Pelmo at the end of our trip. There are steep cliffs right in front of us, quite scary.
We walked up the plateau towards the summit of Mt Formin. The dark clouds went by.

Another view from Mt Formin. The mountains in the centre of the picture are probably the Marmolada range which boasts the largest glacier in the Dolomites.
Descending towards Forcella di Lastoni. We only saw a few people up here.

We rested a bit and went down through the forest to the car park.
Becco di Mezzodi.
Mt Pelmo again... from the window of our apartment. The Fiorentinа valley is peppered with little villages. We spent our penultimate day walking around Mt Pelmo. We climbed up the scree in the centre of the picture and traversed left towards Forc. Val d'Arcia.
