Day 5. The Chatkara (Dzhikaugenkez) pass.
It was still raining in the morning. We ate our breakfast and went back into the tents to wait for the rain to stop. It was nearly noon when we finally packed our backpacks and started walking.

As soon as the rain stopped, we packed away the tents and got to the glacier.
Getting on the glacier from the moraine was straightforward.
The Chatkara pass is getting closer and closer.
The children are putting on "crampons" as the glacier steepens.
Micha is ready to climb.

We are almost there...
We climbed an unnamed peak above the pass. The Birdzhaly lake is visible on the other side of the glacier.

The path descends by a lake. It is well marked with blue paint, it is part of the famous Elbrus World Race (EWR).
We are crossing the snow bridge.
Patches of snow in the shade survived the summer heat.
The path led us to the valley where we planned to camp. But a little adventure was waiting for us...
We had to cross a fast flowing stream. Most of our group managed to cross it without getting their feet wet, helped by a taut rope.
The boys were carried across.
Our camp in the Subashi valley. We got here quite late and were cooking dinner in the darkness. The only disadvantage of our camping spot was lack of clean water, we had to collect from a stream some 100 m up the path we came from.
