Chioggia.
After dropping our friends at the airport, we went to the seaside. We had a place booked for two days at a campsite in Sottomarina. This is a village in the North of Italy, not far from Venice. The weather wasn't kind to us, we had storms and heavy rain. However it is better to have bad weather at the seaside than in the mountains! We couldn't spend too much time swimming in the sea, the beaches were closed because of strong wind. But we did manage to have a dip in the sea every day. Near Sottomarina there is an old finishing town of Choggia. It is built on islands separated by canals, just like Venice. It is a lot less touristy and so felt more authentic and home-like than Venice.
It's raining cats and dogs. We are waiting at a cafe for the rain to stop. The puddle on the street gets deeper and deeper... Victor went out to check if the tents got flooded. Fortunately, they were OK.
Choggia was very picturesque in the rare moments when the sun came out! It only has a few canals with perpendicular streets. People say that Choggia looks like a herring in bird's view. This picture shows the famous Choggia bridge, Ponte di Vigo, decorated with four marble lions.

Unusual funnel-like chimneys. We were told that this design is common for Choggia, the funnels collect soot so that it does not soil clothes on the washing lines. These chimneys were on top of a monastery, but we couldn't get close to it from the other side.
The streets between the canals are narrow, often blocked by parked cars. We are trying out a cart with fishing nets.
Someone's had a washing day.
We visited a museum of Zoology in Palazzo Grassi, a subsidiary of Padova University. The museum was very small but the views from the palace windows were great, the higher the better.
In the first evening we went to Choggia for dinner, and when the rain finally stopped, we went for a walk. This night tour of Choggia was great.
After we went to Bergamo airport, Yasha had time to explore Verona. This is Portoni della Bra, the gateway to Verona.
