Day six. Passo delle Vacche and Bocca di Conca.

The path is well marked and is easy to follow. We originally planned to descend from Bocca di Conca directly into the Conca valley, without a path, but because of poor visibility decided to follow the path via Rifugio Care Alto D. Ongari. We camped by the bothy Malga Conca. The bothy consists of two buildings attached to a huge boulder. One building will probably be a bedroom in the future, and the other one is a nice little kitchen. We pitched our tents close to the bothy and had our dinner in the kitchen. It was really good to spend our last evening under a roof, we ate some bilberries which we collected nearby, and played the guitar.

The weather was getting worse but there was no rain. We went down the valley and crossed the bridge to the other side. Just like in the previous day, we went by some huge boulders.

A group of horses on the other side of the river. They looked wild but were not afraid of people. The two horses looking at us are probably twins, they look identical. There is another horse just behind them.

A foal.

We crossed the bridge and went by the group of horses.

The weather kept getting worse: we were chased by the clouds.

The reservoir with a dam at the back is Lago di Malga Bissina.

The sun came out and cheered us up. The path to our pass is very well marked.

The clouds were floating all around us.

A short break to enjoy the last minutes of the sunshine.

We are walking up rock slabs. Here a boulder fell on a slab and cracked it. Our pass is straight ahead.

The scree leads to the pass. The ridge is very rugged.

Yasha got to the pass first and is surveying the surroundings.

A little kitchen to sort out lunch.

From the pass we traversed the slope towards Rifugio Care Alto. The fog finally caught up with us, there visibility was poor and we even had a short spell of hail. A boulder on top of the ridge at the back of the picture appears to be waiting to come down.

Bocca di Conca, our next destination, is on the left. The clouds were floating around the pass.

A small church near Rifugio Care Alto. The map shows it as a church of Russian prisoners. During World War One, Russian prisoners of war were working as builders for Austrian army. Perhaps they built this church for themselves? We passed by the Rifugio and went down.

While Victor and Lova were looking for a camping spot, we picked some bilberries.

We went up the Conca valley from the path, to find Malga Conca which was shown on the map. It looked like somebody was rebuilding it but has not finished. We pitched out tents nearby and cooked the dinner in the kitchen (the building on the right). The other building was used as a storage space for building tools, there was no space for sleeping. The buildings are attached to a huge boulder which serves as a roof and walls.

Looking at Malga Conca from the other side. Judging by untrampled grass, there aren't many visitors here.

Our last dinner, it is very nice to spend it under a rood. It was dark and wet outisde. We played the guitar and ate bilberries with sugar.

Day seven. The end of the trip. We are going to the seaside.

We started quite early to make sure that Igor and Anna do not miss their flight. It took us just over 1.5 hours to get to the car. It rained hard - the rain started as we were waking up and stopped as soon as we got to the car. We did not care to keep our stuff dry, we thought we would dry it at the seaside. This was a mistake: the weather at the seaside was bad, it rained most of the time, so we only managed to dry things back home.

We got up very early to go to the Verona airport. It was raining all the way down, but when we got to the car park, the rain stopped and low clouds formed beautiful patterns.

Packing away our wet stuff.

Our last picture before returning to civilisation: Igor and Anna are getting ready to catch a flight home, everybody else is going to the seaside.
