The Narvik ski tour, 6-15 April 2023
The last day: Melkefjellet
On the last day we had to return the skis to the rental place, so we did a short tour of the Melkefjellet which was very close to home, opposite Spanstinden.

Skinning up the hill.
The whole valley was trampled by reindeer, but at the top the snow was clear and hard.
Snowdrifts.
The top layer of fresh snow was blown away by the wind, but the underlying layer was not very hard.
You can see the mountains in all directions from the summit. We really liked the enclosed valley in the centre of the photo.
Luna is ready to run.
The boys skied down far ahead and stopped to wait for us at the cliff face. From here you can clearly see the sloping plateau of Spanstinden which we had climbed at the start of the trip.
At lunch we celebrated Hal's birthday with a chocolate cake.
And now down over the ice.
Down in the forest you can see one brown field: this is where the reindeer graze.
We didn't get close to them, but there were plenty of them on the slopes.
We had to ski through a birch forest. Quite a fun thing to do.
We returned our rented skis and went for a walk around the centre of Narvik.
This babushka caught our eye. She was sitting in a square near the fish market.
The next day we all left, some for Sweden, some for Germany or England.
