The Narvik ski tour, 6-15 April 2023
Day four: Durmålsfjellet and Tredjetoppen
The snow was melting at the sea level very quickly, we could see it retreat every day. A view of Bjerkvik from the sea. We lived in a white two-storey house under the mountain, on the right side of the river in this picture.
On the way to the next tour, we stopped by the Beisfjorden. The water was so clear you could see the bottom with sea urchins. Such a contrast: spring by the sea and winter in the mountains.

The same fjord from above. We are skinning up Durmålsfjellet. It's a fairly flat mountain about half an hour from Narvik.
The advance party is already snacking on the summit.
The view from the summit is spectacular, with part of the fjord still covered in ice.
We saw Xenia off to the train and headed back to the chairlift in Narvik. After a quick lunch, we rode up to the top station of the ski lift.
We skinned up to the top of Tredjetoppen. This is the aerial at the top station of the lift. Below you can see Narvik, and beyond that, the bay where we lived. In the sunshine everything looks much prettier than in the clouds.

We're going up this slope with a cornice. It looks steep, but it's actually a very gentle climb.
We are looking at the route to descend down the mountain.
As soon as you leave Narvik, you find yourself among the white snow fields and snow-capped peaks.
Tredjetoppen.
A cairn at the top.
There are only mountains around. We skied all the way down to the resort and then down the pistes to the car. Low down the valley the snow is spring-like: wet and heavy. Up at the top, it's still winter.
