Day 3. Sefinental valley - Tanzbödeli - lake Oberhoresee.

Last day without glaciers... We had to go across the mountain range into the neighbouring valley. Despite significant altitude gain, this was a fairly easy day, the paths were good, and we even climbed up Tanzbödeli (without backpacks).

The red line shows our track. The arrow shows direction of travel.

We camped near a picturesque canyon with a waterfall and went to explore it in the morning.

A big waterfall near our camping place, it was obvious that the water level is sometimes higher.

River Sefi-Litschena.

We went down by the flowing river. An alpine meadow with a small wooden house.

Then we went down towards a forest. In the forest there were some impressive cliffs!

And up again! The forest ended quite quickly and we found ourselves again in more mountain places. This is a drinking station for cows.

On the other side of the valley is Gimmelwald.

A really small hut on the edge of a forest.

Lauterbrunnental valley. The nearest vilage is Gimmelwald, above it is Mürren, far at the bottom is Lauterbrunnen, and on the right side of the valley is Wengen.

We left our heavy packs next to the path and quickly ascended Tanzbödeli.

The view of the Lauterbrunnental valley. To the top of Tanzbödeli was only 20 minuites.

Beneath us are steep cliffs.

The girls are resting there poor bodies.

Everyone together.

On that day we even put up the tarpaulin at lunch, to shield ourselves from the sun. In a few days time we used the tarpaulin for another reason: the rain.

The end point of the day is now close, we just need to climb up to the Oberhoresee lake. We are having a break with Wätterhoren and Tschingelhorn in the background.

A small waterfall.

What a pretty little horse, isn't it? Well, we got to know these animals only too well. When we started pitching the tents, the horses climbed up from the lake and started sniffing around our packs, clearly hoping to get some food. All negotations came to nothing, but in the end we managed to get them to move away by brandishing walking sticks at them. When the horses left, we breathed a sigh of relief, - a bit prematurely though, as the horses were replaced by cows. The cows moved steadily towards our camping site, but the magic walking sticks saved us again. This must be what the local shepherds use to control the animals...

Beautiful lake Oberhoresee.

This is the second lake in the same valley, it is so shallow that it is not even marked on the maps. The cows are grazing on the other side. We got to the lake fairly early in the afternoon, and Yasha and Lova went for a run. They came back exhausted and made no more attempts to go running until the end of the trip.

The evening is closing up. We left the path and camped on a flat spot above the lakes, separated from the cows by a small hill - so we did not even hear their bells. There are signposts below the lake and just next to it warning that wild camping is not allowed. We reasoned that these signs are short-ranged, and camping above the lakes is OK.
